Technique

The standard procedure of a horizontal drilling can be divided into three main steps:

  • Pilot drilling
  • Reaming
  • Pullback

Step 1: Pilot Drilling

The pilot drilling is carried out along a two or three dimensionally bended target drill line between an entry point (in front of the drilling rig) and an exit point on the other side of the obstacle.

Step 2: Reaming

The second step in the realisation of a horizontal drilling consists in upsizing the borehole up to the diameter requiered for pulling in the pipe.

Step 3: Pullback

The last step of  a horiziontal directional drilling consists in pulling back the product pipe that has been prepared at the exit point of the drilling into the expanded borehole (pull back).
